The Baltimore Orioles have a chance to boost their squad with a key addition from free agency. Known for their youthful energy and dynamic play, the Orioles have one clear gap—pitching depth.

With Corbin Burnes expected to leave and the Trevor Rogers trade falling short, the team is left relying heavily on Grayson Rodriguez and Kyle Bradish, both returning from injuries, atop their rotation.

To truly contend, the Orioles need another strong arm in their rotation. Enter Walker Buehler, a top talent still demonstrating his skills on the mound.

Signing him could be the game-changer the Orioles need.

Why Buehler Fits the Orioles’ Needs

Walker Buehler burst onto the scene with a hot start to his career, quickly making a name for himself as a young pitching sensation. In 2021, he showed his talent with an impressive 2.47 ERA, positioning himself as one of the league’s top pitchers.

Unfortunately, injuries hampered his momentum. After a rough patch in 2022, including a 4.02 ERA and then Tommy John surgery, he had to sit out the entire 2023 season.

He returned in 2024 but with mixed results, ending with a 5.38 ERA over 75.1 innings. Despite these setbacks, Buehler’s past seasons highlight his potential and resilience.

Entering free agency, Buehler has the chance to start fresh. His current market value, pegged at around $3.9 million for a one-year deal, reflects his recent struggles but also presents an opportunity for teams like the Orioles.

With time to recover and prepare for 2025, Buehler could regain his form and be the strong arm Baltimore needs.

While once commanding hefty offers, his current value offers a low-risk chance to bolster the Orioles’ rotation, potentially a smart move to fill the critical pitching gap in their roster.

Filling Baltimore’s Pitching Gap

The Orioles find themselves at a crossroads, with Burnes likely out of the picture due to the high price tag he’s set, making Buehler an intriguing prospect to consider. The team is pinning their pitching hopes on younger talents like Grayson Rodriguez.

Adding Buehler, with his potential to handle plenty of innings, might offer a perfect blend of experience and endurance.

Last season, aside from Burnes’ remarkable performance, the team’s starting pitchers hit an ERA ceiling of 3.70, which highlights the need for immediate improvement in their rotation.

Buehler, despite a turbulent past year, showed promise with a 95-mph fastball and a stat line suggesting his skills are resurfacing—especially after striking out six batters in just four innings in his last NLCS game.

While the Los Angeles Dodgers seem lukewarm about re-signing him, Buehler could find Baltimore the ideal stage for a “prove it” deal.

As the Orioles plot their strategy, pitching needs are paramount, and Buehler represents a prime sportsbook odds-favorite to bolster their lineup without breaking the bank.

The Takeaway

Walker Buehler could be the solution the Orioles need for their pitching problem. His experience and potential make him an exciting option for Baltimore.

With Corbin Burnes likely leaving and a need for strong pitchers, Buehler offers a low-risk, high-reward choice. His recent performance shows he is bouncing back, making him a smart bet.

Signing Buehler could boost the team, giving the Orioles the strength they need to compete at a high level again.
