The Baltimore Orioles may not be one of the surest bets in baseball right now, given that they are in one of the league’s toughest divisions and in a bit of a rebuilding phase. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t opportunities throughout the season to bet on the Orioles in positions that could be advantageous to a bettor. Utilizing these strategies to back the O’s in certain spots could help Orioles fans win their wagers on the team more frequently throughout the 2019 season.
Betting against the public
One of the most effective strategies when betting on sports is to bet against the public. With sports betting explained best as an endeavor in which a bettor wants to find value in the lines and win, going against the public can often be a valuable maneuver. Typically, when the public is heavily on one side, the line will move further toward that side. That will give someone a more favorable line to back the other side of the equation.
Therefore, when the Orioles are taking on a side that is heavily backed by the betting public, baseball bettors are often able to find a more favorable line should they want to take Baltimore. Based on the season so far, the Orioles are likely to be underdogs for the majority of their games.
Totals betting
Betting on totals is another strategy that might apply to the Baltimore Orioles throughout this season. The key to betting on totals is understanding which teams play high scoring games and which teams tend to keep games at a lower total on the scoreboard. Right now, the Orioles tend to fit into the former category both because of their offense and defense.

Baltimore’s offense was no joke earlier this season, being comparable to much of the AL Central and some of their running mates in the AL East as well, but they have started to slow down recently. That offense could get better as the season goes on if Mark Trumbo is able to recover from his injury, although a recent setback has made that doubtful. But, with the Orioles, a lot of what would make them a viable team to bet totals with is their pitching staff.
Through the team’s first 73 games, the Orioles gave up 454 runs. That total ranked second in Major League Baseball behind only the Seattle Mariners, who had given up 474 runs to the same point in the season. The 16-2 loss to Oakland Athletics was humiliating as the team collectively had a game to forget. As a result, the Orioles might be a team that bettors would want to consider betting the over with, given that their games typically end with a lot of scoring one way or the other.
There are, of course, many factors to consider before placing either of these types of bets. Weather conditions can often come into play, as do matchups against individual hitters and pitchers. But as far as baseball betting strategies go, you could do far worse than these to get started betting on the Orioles.
