BEVys category number two: Best Jersey to Wear Outside Baltimore

Last week, we told you about the BEVy Awards being put on by the guys at the Bird’s Eye View podcast. Our first category was the Randy Wolf Memorial Forgotten Man.

Voting in our second category, Best O’s Jersey to Wear Among Fans of Other Teams, starts today.

Last fall, my wife and I took a road trip to Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville, like most cities, has an eclectic mix of folks from all around the country, but for the most part, is Atlanta Braves country.

This trip was in October, just after the O’s had been eliminated from the postseason. It was, of course, their first appearance in the playoffs since 1997. Wearing my O’s hat around town, I was shocked at how many people either nodded to me, yelled “Go O’s!,” or even started a conversation with me about how great it was to see the Orioles having success again.

Now, I live in Baltimore, so I don’t get to experience that kind of thing too often. However, I know that the Oriole diaspora goes far and wide. This BEVys category centers around what jersey is the best one to wear, not in Baltimore, to spark conversation among your fellow baseball fans who root for other teams.

For a long time, O’s fans were pretty much forced to wear the classics – Ripken, Murray, Robinson – as no current names were really worthy of donning across your back. Even if you wore say, a Brian Roberts jersey, fans of other teams were hardly likely to even take notice.

However, now you have plenty of options that will catch the eye of opposing fans. Which one is the best option though?

Is it the guy who’s been the face of the franchise for several years now, Adam Jones?

Young phenom Manny Machado?

Former Sports Illustrated cover model Matt Wieters?

The guy who’s suddenly the premier power-hitter in the game, Chris Davis?
