The Baltimore Orioles have become the comeback kids lately, as their offense slumbers early in games only to explode later on. Read below or press play for more.
Birdland has been getting quite the dose of Orioles Magic here of late. A week ago today, the O’s dropped their second straight to Boston to fall to just six games over .500 for the first time since May 8. Since then, they’ve won five of six, and have done so with a hefty dose of what we like to call Orioles Magic. The team was trailing in the sixth inning or later in four of those five victories.
According to a tweet from ESPN’s Eddie Matz, per the Elias Sports Bureau, the O’s have posted a three-run inning in the sixth or later in six straight games, the longest such streak in franchise history. Even in the one game they lost in the last week, they nearly came back and won thanks to a six-run seventh frame.
The Birds now sport 19 come-from-behind victories, the most in the major leagues. The gentleman who writes our series recap notebooks has taken to calling the O’s “The Goonies,” because they never say die.
While it would certainly be nice to watch a few games where the team jumps out early and lets us sit back and relax a bit, we fans can’t complain about the end results. It’s been quite a fun week to be a lover of the Orange & Black.
Some will say that trailing going into the late innings every night isn’t a sustainable way to keep racking up the wins, and they’d probably be right. But this team just keeps reminding themselves that they’re never out of it, and they’re doing so while regaining their spot atop the AL East.
Here’s to continuing to find ways to win, and to the ongoing flow of that sweet Orioles Magic.
