Wednesday’s O’s Links: Where’s the Lumber?

Zach Britton throws in spring training.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

3-2 and 2-1 losses to the start the series, against the hapless A’s. Man, I hate the west coast. Since scoring 10 runs in the first three innings on Sunday, the O’s have pushed just three runs across the plate in 24 innings – two solo home runs and a foul pop-out. The slumbering lumber has wasted two good pitching outings from Kevin Gausman and Wade Miley, and blew a chance to pick up a game on Toronto last night.

Now they need to win the next two just to split with Oakland before heading across the other Bay Bridge to San Fran. Here’s to the sour note this trip has started on being washed away tonight and forgotten quickly.

Wrapping Up a 2-1 Loss

Roch has the quotes from Buck, Adam Jones, Wade Miley and more. You gotta assume they’re as frustrated as we are, but they continue to say all the right things.

The Orioles Should be Taken Seriously as Title Contenders

Will Leich of Sports on Earth penned an awesome column about the O’s that you should read every word of. He tries to figure out why the Birds are always underrated, and STILL are, describes Buck Showalter in a way that will have every Orioles fan nodding in agreement, and thinks this is the year Adam Jones finally has his big postseason moment.

Of course, this article got me all pumped up when I first read it on Monday afternoon, and that was two very lame losses ago.

Can Zach Britton Win the AL Cy Young?

Can Great Britton take home the Cy Young? No reliever has won the award since LA’s Eric Gagne in 2003? ESPN’s Eddie Matz examines Zach’s case closely, looking at previous winners, talking with Britton and some starting pitchers, and more. It’s a fun conversation to be having, that’s for sure.

Know Your O’s – Dylan Bundy

Baltimore Baseball’s Dan Connolly has another “Know Your O’s” video segment, this time with everyone’s new favorite Birds pitcher, Dylan Bundy. What the heck does the Yee Yee shirt that Bundy is always wearing mean? Watch the video for that answer and plenty more.

Miley’s Arrival, Bundy’s Emergence, & Questions for 2017

Chris Stoner of Baltimore Sports and Life addresses several questions about the 2017 Birds, including the rotation with Wade Miley and Dylan Bundy, qualifying offers to guys like Matt Wieters and Mark Trumbo. Also discussed in the round table discussion is what it will take to keep Manny Machado long-term, which guys the team should maybe look to trade, and more.

And in Ravens news…

Not Time to Panic Over Ravens Injuries

The Ravens still have a bunch of players on PUP, including Breshad Perriman, Terrell Suggs, Steve Smith Sr., and others who the team will need to contribute in order to compete this season. This has many fans panicking, but RSR’s Ryan Jones says that the team is just being cautious, and that’s fine.
