Wednesday’s O’s Links: Everything is Awful

Kevin Gausman walks off the mound.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We thought things were looking up after our Birds managed to scrape and claw their way to a series win in Cleveland following the sweep at the hands of the Astros, but it would appear that we were wrong. After dropping the first two games of the four-game set against the Red Sox, the O’s have now lost seven of their last nine games. Mike Wright and Ubaldo Jimenez will be counted on to help them salvage a split – or at least avoid getting swept – and I’m sure that just gives everybody the warm & fuzzies, right?

Sigh. To the links.

Is Kevin Gausman About to Pull it All Together?

Ha! Well, here’s a link I found yesterday that had me pumped up to watch Gas Man last night. Then he gave up gopher balls to the first two Red Sox he faced. He ultimately gave up three dingers for the second straight start. Not ideal. Sean Murphy of NumberFire wrote good things about Gausman, especially his splitter, but ended by very presciently saying that home runs could still be a problem.

Manny Machado and Baserunning Mistakes

You may have noticed that, for all he’s so incredible at, Manny Machado still seems to not quite understand baserunning. The man is a TOOTBLAN machine. Matt Kremnitzer of Camden Depot takes a look at Manny’s many miscues on the base paths.

Three Starters the Orioles Could Acquire via Trade

Ubaldo Jimenez is a dumpster fire. Mike Wright and Tyler Wilson are probably pitching a little bit above their heads, and could regress soon. Nobody knows what Yovani Gallardo, who was awful before getting hurt, will look like when he returns. And now Kevin Gausman can’t keep the ball in the yard. Fun stuff! So, who could the O’s trade for to bolster the rotation? Paul Sporer lists some options for Baltimore Sports and Life.

2015 Draft Review: D.J. Stewart vs. Other Late First-Rounders

The Orioles drafted D.J. Stewart in the first round last year, and thus far, the former Florida State Seminole can’t hit his way out of a wet paper bag at Single-A Delmarva. Man, these links are just full of good news today, huh? When it rains, it pours*. Grab yourself several drafts (beers that is – you’ll need them) and read along as Camden Chat’s Mark Brown goes down the list of other guys the O’s could have had with that draft pick, and tells us how they’re doing.

*obligatory weather reference

These are making me sad. Let’s cut it off at four links today. Here’s to a happier set on Friday! Please?

And in Ravens news…

Will the Bank Always Be the Ravens’ Home?

We talk a lot about our baseball stadium here (and with good reason – it’s awesome), but the football stadium that shares the Camden Yards complex with it is pretty sweet too. While the nature of football stadiums doesn’t allow them to have nearly the personality that a baseball stadium can, M&T Bank Stadium remains a fine place to take in some pigskin. How long will it remain the team’s venue though? Tony Lombardi ponders that question in today’s Word on the Street.
