They did not screw it up! The Orioles picked the guy that the entire baseball world expected them to. Adley Rutschman, the switch-hitting catcher out of Oregon State, now becomes the crown jewel of an O’s farm system on the rise. Will he actually be better than Buster Posey? How soon can he make it to the big leagues? How often will fans misspell his name? All questions that will be answered in good time.
Now is a time of celebration. So far, Mike Elias’s first draft in charge of the Orioles is drawing positive reviews. He has added speed and athleticism to a system that needed it. He has largely stayed away from pitchers in a draft lacking in talent at that position. Clearly, the rookie GM had a plan coming into the draft, and he has stuck to his guns.
On this week’s episode of The Warehouse Podcast, Tyler and Jesse dig into the first 10 rounds of the draft by regurgitating the opinions of other, more informed people. And Jesse provides a scouting report on one of the draftees that he actually knows personally.
