Hope you all had a fun-filled Labor Day weekend, Birdland. That is to say, I hope your holiday weekend involved as little watching of the Orioles as possible. Or, at least, as little watching them while also expecting/hoping they would win as possible. If you were just watching for the pure love of baseball, then hey, it’s always a good time. If you were hoping for some O’s wins, well…there was that one back on Friday, at least.
Let’s get to the links.
Can Zach Britton Start in 2016?
The Birds’ starting rotation has been nothing short of a dumpster fire lately, and seems to be getting even worse as the season goes on. Bird’s Eye View Episode 138: Crushed Dreams
Jake & Scott didn’t take Labor Day off, getting into the studio to discuss the Birds. Somehow I’m thinking it took a bit more self-convincing this year than it did on Labor Day in 2014, huh guys? Cal’s Streak to be Celebrated, Not Analyzed
Sunday was the anniversary of 2131, and Josh Sadlock of Baseball Essential recalls watching Cal’s lap as a 5-year-old in 1995. He says that he has no interest in hearing the talking heads look back on The Streak and wring their hands about Cal possibly being “selfish.” Those idiots are out there, ready to take a dump in all of our oatmeal, and you should just ignore them. Don’t we O’s fans have enough to be angry & sad about right now without letting some bitter old sportswriters tarnish our Iron Man?
Talking Orioles with Dan Szymborski
Baltimore Sports and Life head honcho Chris Stoner interviewed Dan Szymborski of ESPN about the Birds. Szymborski, the creator of the prediction system ZiPS, is also a Birds fan, so he offers an interesting perspective on topics such as extending Manny Machado, re-signing Chris Davis, pursuing other free agents, and more.
Caleb Joseph Broke his Bat Over his Knee
Caleb summed up O’s fans’ feelings:
