The Orioles’ New HR Celebration is a Dong Bong

We kept waiting for the return of the Home Run Chain, the celebration that electrified Birdland in 2022 (and which resulted in many an extra $40 spent at the Orioles Team Store at Oriole Park at Camden Yards for parents such as myself). The Orioles didn’t homer at all in the three games against the New York Yankees over the weekend though, so we had to wait until tonight for them to unleash not the chain but…something else.

This is absolutely incredible. Ryan Mountcastle finally found the left field seats (thanks to aiming a bit center-ish from Walltimore) in the bottom of the first against the Oakland Athletics, came into the dugout and promptly…did a beer bong?! (or “funnel,” if you’re not from Maryland, I guess).

Since we’ve called home runs “dongs” around Birdland for over a decade, The Dong Bong is officially born.

Ok, it was water. But my goodness gracious, talk about stepping things up.

I have no idea who came up with this, but they need an immediate raise. I also have no idea how long this is going to last before someone puts the kibosh on it for promoting binge drinking, or being too adult-oriented, or whatever. But we’ll always have Mounty hitting a knee and taking hose high-quality H2O straight to the face, and nobody can ever take that from us.

Bobby Boucher approves.
