The first game of the year isn’t over yet, and we already have #WeirdBaseball in Baltimore. Leading 4-1 with two outs in the eighth inning, Travis Snider smoked a line drive to the wall in right field. Steve Pearce made the turn to try to score, and appeared to be out by about 75 feet.

However, Pearce slid under the tag, and emphatically called himself SAFE! At first glance, it looked like he was just goofing around. Upon review though, Pearce had a case, and after a replay delay of 2:34, he was indeed called safe.

David Ortiz might be calling Pearce tonight, to ask him how he does that.

The bar has been set quite high early on for strangest play of the year.
