During a baseball season, the team you root for will give you a few signature wins. Wins that you will remember for awhile after they happen. If you are fortunate enough to root for a good team, which the Orioles seem to be, you will have more than a few.

Last night’s O’s victory over the Minnesota Twins qualifies. Starter Jason Hammel didn’t have his good stuff last night, and the Orioles were down 6-0 after five innings. I was on the air during the game, and I’ll usually keep the O’s game on the in studio TV. I strongly contemplated turning the channel to the NBA playoffs. This group of birds are fighters though. They get three in the 6th thanks to four doubles in the inning. Then get three more in the seventh and just like that the game was tied.

They stayed tied til the tenth when Manny Machado’s 3rd hit of the game plated Chris Dickerson with the lead run.

What I liked was the Orioles weren’t satisfied with the one run lead. Base hits from Nick Markakis and Adam Jones followed. The Orioles took a 9-6 lead to the bottom of the tenth. Jim Johnson with a 3 run lead is automatic. He got his 14th save and the Orioles won 9-6.

The Orioles proved to me last night that it’s a big mistake to give up on them.

They have an American League leading 22 wins and they can continue to prove last season was no fluke.
