Today on the show the Orioles signed Yovani Gallardo…pending physical…stop me if you’ve heard this before (Balfour)….so is Gallardo here or is he gone? Speaking of gone, we say bye bye to Natty Boh…or do we? And we signed Dexter Fowler…once again pending physical. So we will get into all of these pending things and more on this edition of Section 336.
Leading Off
Josh is trying to figure out these newfangled social media options, and it’s not going well. In better news, in just two weeks we’ll be heading to Sarasota for spring training, so get pumped for another full week of new content when we return. Matt got some bad news when he went to take his own physical. Bert says all Americans are “obese,” so it’s OK.
Don’t forget about Birdland Radio on Sunday, April 3. We’ll be broadcasting all day long with basically the entire O’s blog-o-sphere and podcast community.
Dexter
The O’s agreed to terms (3 years $35 million) with Dexter Fowler, who instantly becomes the O’s first real leadoff hitter since Brian Roberts (yes…pending physical – but he’s not a pitcher, so it’ll be fine.)
Don’t the Orioles have a good defense? Matt is confused by these nerds saying it’s bad.
So what’s the O’s lineup look like now? This?
Matt takes the whinin’ youngins to task, then gripes about some more stuff.
Baltimore Sports in Popular Culture
Bert is struggling to find some of the clips people are suggesting, but he found a good one from his own collection for this week. This is from Bert’s second-favorite episode of The Simpsons ever, “Skinner’s Sense of Snow”…
Ravens Talk
The NFL combine is coming up, and why is it pronounced like that? What’s up with Nick Boyle?
Terps Talk
Maryland lost to Minnesota last week (ugh), and struggled to beat Michigan at home. Do they still have legitimate NCAA title hopes? Does Melo Trimble have a new girlfriend? Are the Terps poorly coached?
Ball Bag
Jose Bautista said he already gave the Blue Jays a hometown discount. Is he right?
Don Mattingly says no facial hair on his Marlins team. What up with that?
FOX sports rated the most miserable fan bases. #1 in baseball – the Baltimore Orioles.
Cal Ripken has some terrible suggestions to make baseball “more exciting” for Little Leaguers. Thoughts?
There won’t be as much Natty Boh available at OPACY. Do you care?
Bert’s excited about the Academy Awards. MLB.com’s Cut4 is doing a tournament of the top baseball movies. Which would you pick?
