Bill Hagy was the undoubtedly THE best fan of any sports team that Baltimore has EVER seen. He was an inspiration to many people in and around Baltimore, me included. The energy and enthusiasm he brought to Oriole games was second to none!
On one of my recent trips around the internet, I stumbled upon a post on the Orioles subdirectory of www.reddit.com. Someone was trying to bring back that enthusiasm to OPACY. Someone was trying to organize the fans to “take back the yard.” His name is Sean, and this is his story:
Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Sean. I’m 25 years old and originally from the Towson/Parkville area.
What is the Operation Hagy Movement?
The idea behind Operation Hagy is pretty simple. I wanted to see if we could build a tighter community of O’s fans, who meet up before and after games, sit together during games and together, start new chants for players and the team that are organically from Baltimore. The idea started on reddit.com/r/orioles where we crowd-sourced ideas for chants and situations and from there, we started a twitter handle @operationhagy and a Facebook page where people can go for updates and get more information about what our upcoming plans are.
How can people get involved?
The best way to get involved is to follow @operationhagy on twitter for updates, and to come out on March 16th to the Section 336 one-year anniversary show at Mothers Peninsula grille for a meet and greet to learn more about our plans for the upcoming season. And of course come out to O’s games and help get the crowd going with the new chants we will be starting. We will likely be in the upper decks behind home plate sections 334-336.
What can we look to in the future?
Hopefully starting at the beginning of the season, you will see us in the stadium with signs and costumes getting the crowd pumped up and starting some fun new chants across the stadium.
Why should people care?
People should care because we are organizing fans to take back the yard, create a stronger atmosphere and support the O’s for what’s going to be one of the most exciting season in years!
How can we contact you and/or sign up?
Follow our Twitter handle @operationhagy for updates and come out to the meet at greet at Mothers Peninsula grille on March 16th. And most importantly, join us at the yard!
