While overall attendance in the MLB is down 2.4% from 2012 to 2013, the Baltimore Orioles’ attendance numbers stand in stark contrast to that trend.

With an increase of 14.9%, the O’s have had the largest attendance increase over last year, according to SportsBusiness Daily, and as reported by Ryan Sharrow of the Baltimore Business Journal.

As we expected all along, all it took was the fielding of a competitive team for the orange and black faithful to come back to Oriole Park at Camden Yards in droves. The fact that the most beautiful ballpark in baseball (and I say this having just returned from AT&T Park) sat empty for so many years is a crying shame, but hopefully a memory that will continue to fade into the past as the Birds return to their winning ways.

The Orioles have posted a strong 14.9 percent attendance increase at Camden Yards through all home games to date, according to data compiled by SportsBusiness Daily. After 58 home games this season, the team has attracted 1,722,044 fans, or 29,690 per game. On average, Camden Yards has been at 64.6 percent capacity this season.

With 13 home dates remaining against American League East squads, and the team in the thick of the playoff race, the OPACY attendance figures should continue to be strong through September.

Hopefully we get the chance to once again pack the Yard in October, as well.
