Ubaldo Jimenez vs. Cy Young candidate J.A. Happ – let’s hear it for the reverse lock! The Birds used the long ball (what else), a very good start from Ubaldo and the ol’ Brach/Britton combo to even this critical series with Toronto. It sure would be nice to get the series tonight before hopefully getting some revenge against the Yankees this weekend.
Let’s see what everybody is saying.
Back in Orioles Rotation, Ubaldo Jimenez Coming Up Huge
Man, wouldn’t it be great if Jimenez could be this good through September (and maybe even further)? I’ve always said that Ubaldo is a guy who is easy to root for and who I want to see succeed. He’s given the team a huge boost over his last two starts (even though they only won one of them), and he could certainly be a key down the stretch, as crazy as that may seem.
Only Fans Know Why Attendance is Lagging
The crowd was smallish last night, and contained far too many folks wearing blue for my liking, but what we lacked in numbers, we made up for in enthusiasm. If the Orioles don’t put together some sort of mini-package of tickets for September for a great price, shame on them. Stop blaming the fans.
Machado Youngest O’s Player to 100 Home Runs
Manny replaced Eddie Murray as the youngest Oriole to ever hit 100 home runs last night, and he did it with authority: a 438-foot blast that left the Yard at 112.7 MPH, his highest exit velocity of the season.
An Orioles Fan Lament: Four Games Back Felt Much Better in 1996
The O’s are now only three games out of first, though that could of course go back up to four if things go south in tonight’s finale against Toronto. Roar from 34’s Matt Taylor says that four games back feels bad for us at the moment, because of how we got here. It wasn’t like that back in 1996, when four games back felt pretty great.
Bird’s Eye View Episode 178: Skid Marks
Jake & Scott seem to disagree with me on attendance, but you should head on over and listen to this week’s BEV anyway.
And in Ravens news…
RSR’s Brian Bower & Dev Panchwagh put on their GM caps and try to predict the Ravens’ 53-man roster one more time.
