Here’s My Connection to the Orioles, What’s Yours?

In his first MASN guest column of 2016, Matt Taylor of Roar from 34 talks about how the Orioles keep him connected to “home” even though he lives in Nashville now, and the sense of history, community and more that goes along with cheering for the home team – wherever home may be. Give it a read and while you’re there, click on some of the links to his past pieces. You won’t regret it.

Powerful Orioles Could be Hit or Miss

Did you know the Orioles will probably hit a lot of home runs this year? Did you know they’ll probably strike out a lot too? Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reminds us that, among other things, water is wet. Some funny quotes from Caleb Joseph though, so check it out.

The “Larger Than Life” Legend of the Ballpark Aisles

Fancy Clancy! Frequenters of Oriole Park know Clancy, even if they don’t realize it – as soon as you see him, you’ll know who I’m talking about. NPR did a wonderful story on Clarence Haskett, who has been a vendor at Oriole Park at Camden Yards since it opened, and who worked at Memorial Stadium before that, starting in 1974. Got any favorite Clancy stories? Share ’em with us in the comments!

Joe-Eey Rickard: A Man of Growing Legend

Joey Rickard only had one hit last night, but it was a biggie, giving the O’s an insurance run with his first career dinger (watch it here). After the homer, the fans wanted a curtain call, and Joey obliged them – but only after looking to his veteran teammates to make sure it was cool. Dan Connolly of Baltimore Baseball has the quotes, as well as some notes on Dylan Bundy.

2016 O’s Minor League Prospect Watch

The Birds’ minor league affiliates started their seasons this week as well, so those of you who like to keep a close eye on the farm will have your baseball plates more than full here shortly. Reggie Yinger and Zach Spedden outline some prospects to watch this year over at Baltimore Sports and Life. Among other things, let’s hope for a healthy year from Hunter Harvey, and a much more encouraging one from D.J. Stewart.
