Matt Wieters must be a Trekkie.
The Birds ended their two-game skid last night with a win over the hapless Yankees. Hopefully they can do the same tonight and tomorrow, treating the Bronx Bums like the last-place team they are.
Despite One Rocky Outing, Tillman Looking Strong
Chris Tillman had some frustrating leadoff walks last night against New York, but aside from those he turned in another very good outing, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out nine and walking four. In his weekly MASN guest column, Dillon Atkinson of Charm City Sports Network looks at Tilly’s increased cutter usage, and points out that his 2.62 FIP is 10th among MLB starters.
Baltimore’s Dylan Bundy Conundrum
Over at Baltimore Sports and Life, Brandon Warne argues that Dylan Bundy hasn’t been very good, despite only allowing two earned runs. He’s allowing a lot of baserunners and not striking out nearly enough batters. I’m going to disagree with Warne here. I think Bundy has been just fine, and to me, he’s still easing back into pitching, especially at the MLB level, which he hadn’t done since 2012. As he gains confidence in his pitches, and learns to pitch a bit more, I’m cautiously optimistic that Dylan Bundy, while he may not be everything we had hoped for a few years ago, will still be a very good pitcher for the Orioles – in the rotation – eventually.
O’s Shift Machado to Shortstop – For Now
When yesterday’s lineup originally came out, Manny was in his usual spot at third base, and Ryan Flaherty was at short. However, Machado and Buck talked in the manager’s office, and following that, Manny played short on Tuesday night. Ken Rosenthal of FOX wonders how long the Machado-at-short thing will last. The most upsetting part of this article? The final sentence: “Machado is a free agent after the 2018 season, and the Orioles have yet to engage him in meaningful discussions about a long-term deal.”
Bird’s Eye View Episode 162 – Ankles Away
Jake and Scott are back with episode 162, featuring a terrifying Medical Wing segment. Can the O’s fill the gaps? That, the Good, Bad, and Ugly, and a Truth or Truth segment. I want to know what happened to Fantasy Boss though…
Today in Orioles History: Larry Sheets Delivers Orioles Magic
Wondering what O’s magic there has been on May the Fourth? Matt Taylor of Roar from 34 is here for us. Back in the dismal 1988 season, the O’s got their – damn – third win today, thanks to some Larry Sheets magic.
And in NFL News…

Dev Panchwagh of Russell Street Report gives his five big takeaways from the Ravens’ draft. He says “The Denver Effect” is rubbing off, they weren’t lying about wanting more pass rushers, Arthur Brown still has a chance, and the offense should be more explosive.
