Some awful news for lovers of the Birds’ post-game celebration in today’s links.

Orioles Ban Postgame Pie-Face Celebrations

Damn. How many traditions can bite the dust in one week? First it was the Natty Boh news, now comes word that the O’s will no longer be throwing around Dangerously Delicious Pies after victories. It all started with a cryptic tweet from Adam Jones (we love those), but he quickly clarified things to say that the pies are a thing of the past. Something about safety. Boo.

Are the Orioles Becoming a Ground Ball Staff?

Rob Shields of Baltimore Sports and Life wonders if the O’s are making a concerted effort to throw more pitches that induce ground balls. That would seem to be a great idea, considering both the park they play in and the stellar infield defense they’ve built. Here’s to more wormburners and fewer moonshots moving forward.

These Aren’t the Outfielders You are Looking For

Now that the Dexter Fowler dream fell apart, some O’s fans have been redoubling their calls for the team to make a move to bring Nick Markakis back into the fold. With tweets this weekend that Mark Trumbo is already butchering his chances in the outfield, those calls will likely only get louder. Scott Magness of Bird’s Eye View tries to figure out if this is a good idea.

The O’s Have a Great Lineup Even Without Fowler

My dreams of a “Taco Bell Lineup” were fun while they lasted, but much like Taco Bell food, they ran right through our collective system here in Birdland, leaving us dazed and confused and unsure what hit us. So, the O’s can still score a lot of runs even without Dexter, right? Mark Brown of Camden Chat assures us that yes, we can.

The Orioles are Baseball’s Weirdest Team

Grant Brisbee of SB Nation says that the Orioles have taken the baton from the Colorado Rockies as the weirdest team in MLB. Most of his evidence comes from the Birds having very inactive offseasons after years where they contend. Whether or not you agree with his conclusions, this is a very entertaining read.
