The O’s took two of three over the weekend against the New York Yankees on the backs of several comebacks (and another that fell just short). Mother Nature provided a 97-minute rain delay on Sunday that could have certainly played into things, but the weather looks perfect for this three-game set against Kansas City. Let’s keep the defending World Champs on their downward spiral, huh?
We’ll get to the links in a moment, but you should watch this first, because it’s awesome. Aroldis Chapman may throw fire, but he’s no match for Matty Ice Wieters.

Myriad O’s Thoughts: On Gausman, CC, Lee, and Wright
Dan Connolly of Baltimore Baseball has some quotes from Kevin Gausman after he was once again denied his first win of the season, despite pitching plenty well enough to earn it. Dan also tries to figure out what’s making CC Sabathia good again, and updates us on Chris Lee, who was sent to the DL.
Of course! Ok, got that gut reaction out of the way? Now that we do, we need to accept that the reality is much more complicated. Matt Perez of Camden Depot compares Ubaldo to pitchers who signed similar deals over the last five years, and while Jimenez certainly isn’t the best of them, he’s also not the worst of them. Basically, it boils down to this: $12 million per year gets you a pitcher like Ubaldo Jimenez in today’s MLB.
Are the Orioles in a No-Win Situation with Trumbo?
You can already hear the rumblings around Birdland…”Trumbo is just gonna be the next Nelson Cruz!” It’s an interesting conundrum in which the team could find itself this offseason, could Mark’s breakout year continue. As Rob Shields of Baltimore Sports and Life says though, the Manny Machado situation should really get resolved first and foremost. As long as that’s priority numero uno, questions about guys like Trumbo, Adam Jones, and others really need to be on the back burner. Sign Manny. Then worry about everything else.
Where do the O’s Rank 1/3 into the Season?
The season is one-third over already (slow down, summer!), and Zach Wilt of Baltimore Sports Report gives us the rundown of where the O’s rank in a bevy of categories, who leads the team in what, and more.
O’s Pitchers Suddenly Falling Victim to Longball
We all knew the Orioles offense would pick things up…it was just a matter of waiting for the weather to turn. What we also probably knew – whether we wanted to admit it to ourselves or not – was that the O’s newfound penchant to keep the other team in the yard was due for some regression. Our own Andrew Stetka, in his weekly MASN guest column, wonders what the team will do to try to address their recent pitching struggles.
And in Ravens News…
A Retractable Roof at M&T Bank Stadium?
Should the Ravens consider adding a retractable roof to perhaps one day attract a Super Bowl? Adam Bonaccorsi makes his case over at Russell Street Report. Vote and let him know what you think!
