Today at O’s minor league camp, there were more pitchers throwing live BPs and organized batting practices following them. Starters didn’t spend lots of time on the practice mounds, but in the morning Ryan Conroy, Drew Rom and Kyle Brnovich went through their tosses before departing. Tall righty Adam Stauffer threw a live BP, during which he was changing speeds and challenging hitters who haven’t seen his stuff up close.

I got to see the Aberdeen group go through their rounds of drills, live BPs and a hitting contest. It’s hard to see how this won’t be a major contender for best team in the minors.

Other items of note include finally seeing OF prospects Elio Prado taking BP in a cage and Davis Tavarez stretching fences. Also, because I’m watching everything I can notice that the coaches who throw BPs are hitting the zone better than they were in recent weeks. I guess that’s progress. Third base prospect Coby Mayo and OF Billy Cook went liner for liner in an exit velo contest.

One of my favorite baseball writers growing up was at camp. He’s now employed by another MLB team but meeting John Manuel was a very big deal. The fact that he knows me by my ‘helpful’ videos was something I haven’t fully processed.

Tomorrow there will be games for all four affiliates and I’ll be there to watch Aberdeen/Delmarva take on the Braves in Northport. Hopefully I’ll have some lineup and starter type info to examine further.
