Maybe the O’s should let their pitchers hit?

Not really.

But still, the lack of production the O’s have been getting from their DH spot has been abysmal – the pitchers probably wouldn’t do any worse.

O’s designated hitters are now 3-for-47 on the season, prompting the always clever Roch Kubatko of MASN to say that, for the O’s, DH stands for “doesn’t hit.

According to CBS Sports, SEVEN National League teams’ pitchers are, in fact, outhitting the Birds‘ DHs.

Roch asked Buck about it, and the O’s skipper had this to say:

I asked Showalter yesterday if the club is getting close to addressing the issue, or if it’s still considered too early?

“It depends what your definition of addressing it is,” Showalter replied.

“I’m aware because I get hit with it every day. But it’s not something where I go, ‘Look at our two hole, look at our eight hole. How are they hitting?’ Or whatever. It’s one of those ebb and flows to a season.

“It’s been challenging for us statistically, but I have a lot of confidence in the people we have in our organization that we’ll get better at it. If not, we’ll continue to look for ways to do it. But it’s not something I’m staying up at night thinking about.”

It’s been pretty awful, for sure.

As a huge fan of Nolan Reimold, I’m holding out hope that he’ll be the one to finally break out and start producing from the DH spot.

At this point though, I wouldn’t complain if Steve Pearce starting hitting the cover off the ball. I just want somebody to actually HIT from the DESIGNATED HITTER spot.

Is that too much to ask?
