Today, MLB let Manny Machado know that he’ll be suspended for four games for his part in Tuesday’s altercation against Kansas City, per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Machado, of course, charged the mound and started throwing punches at the Royals’ Yordano Ventura after Ventura plunked him with a 99-MPH heater. This was after Ventura had buzzed Manny a few times in an earlier AB.

All things considered, it’s not all that bad. Many fans were speculating that Machado could get anywhere from 5-10 games.

We’ll see what Ventura gets, as it seems from the rather light punishment set down upon Manny that MLB may – rightfully – be viewing the pitcher as the instigator in this situation. Last year, Ventura was fined once, and fined and suspended for his role in separate incidents.

Manny will likely appeal the suspension, though with it being so light, he may choose to just accept it. When he was suspended in 2014, he appealed only to have his five-game suspension upheld. This may be a case where it’s better just to take your medicine, rather than fighting it.

He was also fined $2500. Pass the AmEx, Adam.

Update: Nightengale also says Manny is expected to appeal.
