In last night’s 11-7 win over the Padres, Hyun Soo Kim pretty much did it all at the dish. He was 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI double (at the end of an incredibly impressive eight-pitch AB in which he fouled off three straight two-strike pitches), and his second home run of his MLB career.
He ambushed an 87 MPH “fastball” from Erik Johnson, and the Korean broadcast went nuts. Press play below to listen.
For my #Orioles fans: here's a Korean broadcast call of Hyun-Soo Kim's home run. These things are fun #MLB pic.twitter.com/keGPN0ZTbI

So, admittedly, I don’t really understand the Korean broadcast side of things. There are a handful of Korean players in MLB – do Korean media have a broadcast crew assigned to following each player around all season long? Or do they have crews stationed in certain cities who only go to the games when their players are in town?
Whatever the situation is, it’s definitely fun to hear them get to go nuts for one of their own players. That’s basically the main reason they’re there in the first place, right? I need something to compare this to…perhaps the same crew calling Chris Davis‘ homer earlier in that same inning.
Speaking of Kim & videos, by now I’m sure we’ve all seen his highlight video set to his great NA NA NANANA theme music. This one:

NA NA NANANA NANANANANANANA!
So very catchy.
Anyway, now that Kim has some O’s highlights, the talented young man in charge of the BMoreCenter Twitter account put together an updated video, which you can watch below:

Kim is putting up some fairly absurd numbers here in his first MLB season. The 28-year-old is at .339/.431/.458 through 137 plate appearances. The platoon of Kim and Joey Rickard is bascially, as our own Phil Backert said on 105.7 the Fan yesterday, “the perfect outfielder.” He’ll likely come back to earth a bit, but so far it looks like any reservations we had from his poor spring training performances were completely unfounded.
NA NANANANA
Imagine booing Hyun Soo Kim.

So the first question re the broadcast team; the Korean channel with the rights have 3 or 4 teams in Korea that broadcast over the mlb feed. A few years nack when Ryy faced off against Choo for the first time they sent a team to LA but this occura very rarely.
As for the nanana song each player in Korea has their own cheer set to a song that they blast at each bat. There are some interesting ones, including one set to Dancing Queen.
