Prior to Sunday’s win over the Toronto Blue Jays, O’s fans learned that our team will be fielding a fifth All-Star in Tuesday’s Mid-Summer Classic at Citi Field.
Pitcher Chris Tillman will be joining Manny Machado, Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy, and Adam Jones on the American League squad, replacing Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers, who pitched on Sunday.
While a guy like Miguel Gonzalez may be more deserving based on recent performance, Tillman has been very consistent for the Birds all season. He seems to struggle through a couple innings in every start, but has proven that, more often than not, he is able to battle through and give the O’s a chance to win. He is 11-3 with a 3.95 ERA, after going 9-3 with a 2.93 ERA for the Birds in 2012.
Congrats to all of the O’s All-Stars. Make us proud, boys.
