Even though he makes us say “wow” with his defensive play at least a couple times every week, it’s still a treat to watch Manny Machado. Every time he makes a play like this one last night in Detroit, we as O’s fans need to remind ourselves how lucky we are to have him.
As I’ve said several times, even when the O’s lose, at least we got to watch Machado play. Chances are, he did something special.
And let’s not forget that he currently leads the Majors in hits with 101, and doubles with 33 (the next closest player has 23).
As a friend of mine (@lmaciolek) tweeted last night, if Machado keeps up this pace, he’ll collect his 3,000th hit at age 33.

Did you see how far he went to his left for that ball? I would love to see the reverse angle–to see when he got his jump. I tell young players to KNOW where the pitch is to help determine your first step, but this is insane how fast he is off the ball.
