Get out to the Yard, Baltimore

Baltimore was blanketed with snow just a couple weeks ago. Now, 80 degrees and sunny. As much as I’ve missed bundling up to make my way to classes, walking around College Park in flip-flops has been a nice touch. And hopefully baseball fans are enjoying it as well.

Whether you like it or not, the city of Baltimore has teamed up with mother nature to seemingly skip over spring and head straight for summer. If you were looking for the boys of spring…keep looking. The boys of summer have arrived.

A team that compiled a record of 63-45 during last year’s summer months (June, July, August, September) looks to be back at it again. After a hot start led by Mr. Crush, Chris Davis, the Birds went into somewhat of a tailspin. The one-run games that seemed to always end up in the win column a year ago were simply not going our way. Some may point to starting pitching, others to the bullpen, or just a lack of clutch hitting and run support.

For now, I remain optimistic. I’ll just have to attribute it to weather (and the Baby Face Assassin, but that’s for another time).

Although the season just got underway, those (real) summer months are rapidly approaching. With a handful of division games on tab over the next week, the opportunity to get ahead in the AL East is there for the taking.

I urge Oriole Nation, get out to the yard. As soon as classes let out, I know I’ll be there too. Baltimore, enjoy the weather and enjoy the winning team that we proudly call our own.
