After going 0-3 in five starts for the Orioles, Kevin Gausman was sent down to AAA Norfolk last week in order to make room for another bullpen arm.
His first start in AAA Norfolk didn’t go so well.
Gausman got the loss against the Indianapolis Indians in the first game of a doubleheader, giving up seven runs and 10 hits over six innings of work.
According to Ian Locke, Gausman gave up two runs in the first inning before calming down and retiring eight of the next nine batters. Then things fell apart. He gave up runs in the next three innings, including a three-run home run to left fielder Andrew Lambo.
This is not the type of start Oriole fans were expecting from Gausman after what he has showed us in the majors. He seemed to be progressing in his last few starts; this is certainty a step back.
MASN’s Roch Kubatko reported that Orioles manager Buck Showalter has made no promises for a quick call up and said Gausman has to earn another promotion.
Here’s to hoping that Gausman can learn some things at the AAA level, figure out how to get his slider across the plate, and help the Orioles make a pennant run later this season.
