Just when we thought they were out…they pull themselves back in again! The Birds rebounded from a disheartening loss on Tuesday to take the final two games in Toronto and pull even with the Blue Jays for the Wild Card spots in the AL. Due to Toronto winning the season series (10-9…ugh), we need the Birds to finish a game ahead of them to get the one-game playoff at Camden Yards. The Birds taking two of three in New York while the Jays drop two of three in Boston would certainly do the trick.
The final weekend of the regular season is here. FanGraphs gives the O’s an 88% chance to make the playoffs, the highest that number has been all year.
Buckle Up!
Kim Shows All His Tools When O’s Needed Him Most
After his heroics on Wednesday, Kim again paced the O’s offense Thursday with two hits and a walk. If this man isn’t in the lineup for every game the O’s play for the rest of the year, then Buck Showalter should seriously have some ‘splainin to do.
Kim and Ubaldo Jimenez – one booed on opening day, the other rumored (to the delight of fans) to be on the trading block in July – save the Orioles season. Ain’t baseball great?
Indians-Tigers Rainout Could Mess Up Orioles
The Cleveland-Detroit game yesterday got postponed, and will only be made up if the Wild Card is undecided after Sunday. With the weather forecast in New York this weekend looking pretty damn awful, a lot could go wrong, and the schedule could get very messy.
The Ringer’s Ben Lindbergh busts out the GIFs to pinpoint a bunch of times this season where Caleb Joseph could have easily earned an RBI. As we all know, the baseball gods frowned upon CaJo in every single one of those instances, and now he’s just three games away from infamy. Poor Caleb. As if getting your nuts crushed wasn’t bad enough.
A Prescient Preseason Prediction for the O’s
Roar from 34’s Matt Taylor wonders what an accurate preseason prediction column for the Orioles would have looked like. He tries to deke us into thinking he’s looking into the future here, but don’t be fooled – the history professor will be writing about things that have already happened. I’m on to you, Matt!
