Last year at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Angels rookie phenom Mike Trout made an incredible leaping catch at the wall in center field to rob J.J. Hardy of a home run.
Last night, the Birds got a little bit of redemption.
Though it would have been better if it was Hardy again hitting (because that would also mean that J.J. actually hit a ball well, instead of weakly grounding or popping out), in the ninth inning of the O’s 5-1 win, Trout tried to rob Nate McLouth at the wall, and instead aided the baseball in finding a new home on the other side of the wall.
McLouth’s two-run shot gave the Birds a comfortable 5-0 lead in the top of the ninth.
Though it’s tough to tell where the ball would have landed, it appears as though it may have bounced off the wall without Trout’s help.
That’s the story I’m sticking to.
It was a rough night for the 2012 Rookie of the Year.
Thanks, Mike.
