If you listen to my show, you will know that what I’m about to say is not an overreaction of what I saw late Monday night. I wish the Orioles would’ve resigned Joe Saunders. He came up huge for The Birds on multiple occasions late last season.
I was preaching all off season that I really liked the idea of having a veteran arm at the back end of the rotation. Saunders isn’t perfect. As a matter of fact he’s been really bad on the road this season for the Mariners. That said he knows how to pitch in The Majors and that’s more than you can say right now about Jake Arrieta, Zach Britton, et al.
His contract demands were allegedly obscene early on but that’s part of the negotiating process. He eventually signed a one year $6.5 million deal in Seattle. That is a reasonable deal. Sort of like the one year $6 million deal Mark Reynolds signed in Cleveland but I digress.
The Orioles will have a different 5th starter on Saturday (maybe Freddy Garcia??) and while watching Joe Saunders tie Orioles hitters in knots en route to a complete game victory on Monday I just kept thinking he could’ve and should’ve (in my opinion) been wearing orange and black.

One game does not a season make.
I agree. But I also think that’s why Garcia is here. Saunders would have been the better feel good story because of regional connection.
