Hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day, right? Last week, I said that, now that Melvin Upton Jr. had been traded to Toronto, the O’s should turn their attention to old friend Steve Pearce.
There weren’t any rumors that the Birds were even considering Pearce an option, then the 4 PM deadline came and went, and it looked like Wade Miley was to be the Orioles’ only acquisition.
Then…
Source #Orioles get Pearce from #Rays.

And yes, I checked – that’s the real Ken Rosenthal.
So, what did they give up?
Source: #Rays acquire Jonah Heim from #Orioles for Pearce.

Heim, 21, was hitting .216/.300/.344 for Frederick this year. He was considered a very good defensive catching prospect though.
So, what do you think? Like the trade?

I like the Pearce trade, but am reading negativity from others on teh web. To those unhappy folks, I pose these questions:
1) Did you actually think that the O’s had the talent/cacpacity to get a Beltran-type bat via trade? Seriously???
2) What exactly is wrong giving up a Class A catcher for a guy who is familar with the O’s system, can play multiple positions (and well) and gives you a nice option off the bench?
3) Would you have preferred the O’s did nothing today?
Welcome back, Stevie Pearce…go O’s!
Steve is having a great year, but who is going to be DFA? Because the SP has been weak, the O’s are operating with a 13 man pen, leaving only 3 position players on the bench. Reimold, Ryan F, and the back up catcher.
Looks to me like light hitting Reimold is the odd man out. Or, are the expectations for SP Miley that great the FO will cut a pitcher? Who goes down to make space for Miley? I think they missed the boat by not trading Weiters for a front line starter from Texas or The Indians.
