Is This Why The Yankees Bullpen was So Awful This Weekend?

The New York Yankees’ bullpen is terrifying. With Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, and Aroldis Chapman, New York has absolutely embraced the new MLB philosophy of “just get a lead through six, then shut it down.” Betances has 55 strikeouts and just eight walks. Miller has a 1.14 ERA, 42 strikeouts to three walks, and a .157 BAA. Chapman sports a 2.25 ERA, an 18:3 K:BB ratio, and was 9/9 in save opportunities before Sunday.

The Orioles got to them a bit this weekend though. On Friday, Betances allowed two hits and a run in an inning of work. On Sunday, he gave up two more of each in 1.1. Chapman gave up two hits and blew his first save of the year in the O’s win on Sunday. (The Birds didn’t touch Miller, because…well, because he is awesome. You remember.)

The O’s were trailing going into the sixth inning on Friday, and won. They were trailing in the eighth on Sunday, and won. That’s not supposed to happen against Joe Girardi‘s crew.

So what happened? I’m thinking our own food critic Carne Cabeza got in their heads.

I will never get tired of doing this…
