Today was a lazy and very hot Friday at O’s minor league camp. The sun was unobstructed so I wore sleeves. They opened up late so I rode my bike around the complex for a bit. No opponent meant practices and a handful of live BPs around the back fields. There were some defensive drills while they were going on.
All the neat things I saw today at camp are up on my IG stories. We get a good look at some stars w/loud BPs including Moises Ramirez then get close to 2B Cèsar Prieto in drills. Finally pitchers Adam Stauffer & Houston Roth did well today. There’s improvement everywhere! Enjoy pic.twitter.com/PIbgxVrPyA

I got to see youngsters Moises Ramirez and Isaac DeLeon standing and swinging with a handful of minor league vets including corner J.C. Escarra. Ramirez may have had his best cage experience as an Oriole. He was blasting out long line drives in a row. Pitchers Houston Roth and Adam Stauffer threw live sessions and both looked great. It appears that Stauffer’s last session was mostly straight stuff but today he was bending breaking balls that were tough to square up. FCL lefty Adrion Lacle laced them up to throw a session too but I only caught him warming up.
In the distance I saw some outfield defensive drills and even what looked like sliding practices. Guys are moving and improving no matter what they’re focused on. Not an info-heavy day as there were stations with guys moving all morning. I was able to determine that although close, 3B Coby Mayo is in fact taller than 1B Jacob Teter so I lost a bet on that one. Teter’s swing is coming along nicely and when his timing is right he can groove liners right up the middle. I got to discuss the shift and how it could help him with his dad Scott who is as anti-shift as any fan could be.
Tomorrow there will be either a game or a practice and I’ll be there to cover it. See you then.
