This is a silly award, but Gary Thorne is a silly man, and we think he should win it. ESurance has MLB awards, apparently, from categories as normal as Best Major Leaguer and Best Rookie all the way through Best Celebrity Fan and down to Best Trending Topic (ugh).
No, Thorne isn’t up for Most Likely to be Four Drinks Deep, but only because that’s not a category. He IS up for Best Call, TV, naturally.
The call in question was from the “no fans” game on April 29th, when Thorne channeled his inner Jim Nantz and absolutely nailed it. An assist from Adam Jones, who smacked a double at the absolute perfect time, took the call from good to great.
