The Birds still find themselves mathematically – if not realistically – alive for a playoff berth, and it’s been great to see them not just pack up shop here in September. If they could continue to help throw dirt on the grave of the 2015 Washington Nationals over the next several days, that would be pretty darn sweet as well.
Let’s get to some links.
Get to Know Nolan Reimold, All-Star Dad
Long-time readers of ESR know that I have a bit of a soft spot for Nolan Reimold, and I’m glad that he’s getting some solid playing time here down the stretch (even if it is LONG overdue – a story for another day). Josh Sadlock of Baseball Essential talked with Reimold’s wife, Jenny, to explore another side of Nolan, that side that is father to SIX children. Take a look, and remember that these guys are more than just names on the back of a jersey.
The Nationals Suck, and Here’s Why
Those of you who read Deadspin are no doubt familiar with the “Why Your Team Sucks” series written by Drew Magary ahead of every NFL season. Mark Brown of Camden Chat gave our neighbors to the south a similar (though less profanity-filled) treatment, and it’s glorious. I never thought I’d see a team compared to the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle, but well, there you have it. Make sure you click on the story Mark links about the Jayson Werth bobblehead. WTF?
Bird’s Eye View Episode 140: Express Written Consent
You know who else isn’t just playing out the string? Jake and Scott of Bird’s Eye View, and for that, gentlemen, we salute you. Did you know that those a-holes at MLB Advanced Media are now coming after GIFs? Ugh, what morons. The guys discuss that, the Birds’ recent hot stretch, and a crazy plot turn in this season’s Fantasy Boss.
Section 336 Episode 132: Storytime with Dad
Let’s keep the great podcasts going, shall we? On this week’s Section 336, Storytime returns, c/o Josh & Matt’s dad, John. He did an awesome fantasy week-type thing at OPACY, and here’s why you should listen: Scott McGregor spoke with him, and had some very interesting things to say about both Jake Arrieta and Eduardo Rodriguez regarding their respective times in Baltimore. Come for that, stick around for the usual segments, including This Weekend, Ball Bag, and more.
Contributions from the Orioles’ Non-Prospects
Joe Reisel of Camden Depot takes an alternative view of the Orioles’ farm system, saying that perhaps having AAA and AA rosters full of guys who can help the major league club at a moment’s notice might not be a bad thing after all. While having uber-prospects gets you all the slobbery writings from guys like Keith Law, there is, as they say, more than one way to skin a cat.
