Well, there’s a headline I hoped to never have to write again.
On a night that started off bad enough, with the O’s committing three errors in the first three innings to basically hand the New York Yankees a 3-1 lead, things quickly took a turn from the annoying to the potentially disastrous.
Manny Machado, swinging at a pitch from NY starter Chris Capuano, went down hard after it appeared that his right knee buckled.
Manny was writhing in pain on the ground, but unlike last September, was not carted off. Buck Showalter and Richie Bancells helped Machado hobble off the field, and he looked to not be putting any weight on that right knee.
The extent of the injury isn’t known, but if there is a modicum of “good” news here, it’s that this isn’t the same knee Machado hurt and had surgically repaired last year.
Here’s hoping (really, really, REALLY hoping) that it’s just a slight twist, and not nearly as bad as it looked.
This sucks.
