What a wild and weird season. To depict the oddities of the 2016 Orioles, I’ve compiled some numbers. Let’s take a look.
The Orioles finished 2016 with:
– 253 home runs – 5th most in a single season, in MLB history.
– 71 multi-HR games – tied for 10th most in a single season, in MLB history.
– 16 games with 4+ HRs – tied for most in a single season, in MLB history.
– 6 triples – fewest in a single season, in MLB history.
– 19 stolen bases – tied for 8th fewest in a single season, in MLB history
A few other interesting stats from this year:
Zach Britton’s season ERA of 0.54 will go down as the lowest of any relief pitcher with 50+ games in MLB history.
For the fourth year in a row the home run leader is a Baltimore Oriole. This is the first time the same team has the HR king four (or more) years in a row since Ralph Kiner, of the Pirates, led the Majors in home runs from 1947 to 1952.
Caleb Joseph finished the season with zero RBIs in 141 plate appearances – the second most PAs without an RBI in a single season, in MLB history.
