Ahoy, mateys! Though watching the Orioles so far in 2025 has made most of us want to walk the plank and step right into shark-infested waters, the Birds players, for some reason, thought a pirate hat celebration was in order for home runs.
Starting with Ramon Laureano‘s solo home run in the ninth inning on Saturday night, then continuing with Gunnar Henderson‘s two-run shot yesterday, we’ve seen its appearance:
Henderson made his way over to the hydration station eventually as well, so it seems this celebration is in addition to the dong bong, not a replacement (much to my son’s delight).
Before we got an explanation for the hat, I liked this one that someone sent us on the site formerly known as Twitter:

The Pittsburgh Pirates fired manager Derek Shelton last week, and Josiah is thinking this is the Birds’ way of crying out for help that they are also Buccos and would like a new Captain.
Probably not, but I can climb aboard with that idea.
Evidently, Henderson took a trip to Disney Land during his time in Anaheim this weekend, and in a nod to the “Jack Sparrow” hat tip that he’s done on home runs while rounding second base for several seasons now, brought it to the clubhouse.
On the one hand, they certainly haven’t done anything to earn more celebrations. On the other, anything that gets the boys going can’t be a bad thing.
After taking two of three from the Halos to end the road trip at 2-4, the O’s return home to take on the suddenly red-hot Minnesota Twins, winners of eight straight.
Because of course they do.
May was supposed to be the O’s “get right” month, but so far they’ve been unable to steer their ship out of choppy waters, losing six of their nine contests.
Here’s to reloading the cannons and getting some revenge on the Twinkies & Gnats.
