The Maryland Food Bank and the Orioles are joining forces before the O’s go head-to-head with the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend at Camden Yards. MFB volunteers will be just outside the gates collecting monetary donations and non-perishable food items before each of the four games (Friday, doubleheader Saturday, and Sunday).  Every $5 you donate to the Maryland Food Bank during the three-day series will provide enough food for 10 nutritious meals for families in need.

Some additional background on the Maryland Food Bank:

About the Maryland Food Bank’s COVID-19 Response:

  • The last year and a half has been unlike anything the food bank has experienced before; the pandemic had an almost immediate impact – starting in March 2020, we saw a spike in demand that hasn’t let up
  • People continue to suffer financially because of the pandemic, and the Maryland Food Bank is playing an essential role in helping the state recover
  • From March 2020 through June 2021, the food bank’s statewide food assistance network distributed the equivalent of 66 million meals in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Food insecurity was a major issue before COVID-19, and now, as a result of the pandemic, many more people are unsure where their next meal will come from
  • The Maryland Food Bank estimates that roughly 2 million Marylanders in our state may face food insecurity in 2021 – that’s 1 in 3 residents who don’t have regular access to healthy meals

About the Maryland Food Bank

The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization dedicated to feeding people, strengthening communities, and ending hunger for more Marylanders

  • For more than 40 years, MFB has been leading the fight against hunger in the state; longtime collaborative partnerships with organizations like the Baltimore Orioles have been instrumental to this work
  • The food bank distributes food through a statewide network of community partners, including 1,450 food pantries, emergency shelters, feeding centers, schools, community centers and senior residences
  • With facilities in Baltimore, Salisbury, and Hagerstown, the food bank distributes food across 21 counties and Baltimore City (the entire state except for Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, which are served by a sister food bank)
  • MFB will continue to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable communities while collaborating with partners to provide resources beyond food and address root causes of hunger so that more Marylanders can become financially stable and thrive
