In 2014, the Orioles enjoyed a tremendously successful season led by reigning AL Manager of the Year Buck Showalter, but were probably chomping at the bit to get the new campaign started after how they anti-climatically faded in the ALCS, where they were surprisingly swept by the Royals.

The Orioles have come out swinging in the season’s first two games, as Baltimore appears to be on a mission in redeeming themselves and getting back to where they were a year ago. They’ve started things out with two impressive victories on the road over the division rival Tampa Bay Rays, and will be heading into the weekend with another fellow AL East resident, the Toronto Blue Jays, in what will be their first home series of the young slate.

In that series, it will be interesting to see what starting pitcher Bud Norris does in his first outing of 2015, as he was outstanding last year in his first full season with the Orioles, winning a career-high 15 games. He’s always had potential since his early days with the Houston Astros, and perhaps now is the time Norris is harnessing his full potential to be a legitimate upper echelon starter in the big leagues.

According to TiqIQ.com, tickets to Orioles games against the Blue Jays have an average price of $93.26 for the three weekend games. The most expensive average ticket price is $150.64 with a walk-in price of $68 on Friday, April 10th, which is the team’s home opener. Saturday and Sunday’s game have an average ticket price under $60 with a walk-in price under $21. Baltimore fans not in the area can use Hipmunk.com to catch the action during their home opener. Hipmunk has flights to Baltimore, including hotels near Oriole Park at Camden Yards that will put you in walking distance of the ballpark.

Baltimore’s received some quality pitching thus far from both Chris Tillman and Wei-Yin Chen. At the same time, their offense has been making it easy for the club, based on the first couple of games, in which the Orioles have compiled 12 runs. That effort has been sparked by newcomer Travis Snyder, who is essentially the replacement for former longtime Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis, as he has started his new tenure by going 4-for-5 with three runs batted in and three walks. Steve Pearce has also played an unexpectedly active role in the lineup, slugging two homers in his seven at-bats.

The Orioles’ bats will certainly be tested in this weekend series, as Toronto possesses a similarly potent lineup that can keep up with any offense in baseball. Led by Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Reyes, the Blue Jays have an offense that helps put them in the conversation as serious contenders in the American League this year. As a result, this first series between the two clubs should be a very intriguing one to see who has the leg up in the early going. It should be a fierce rivalry all year long for division supremacy.
