Who Wins the Backup Catcher Job?

It’s time to go over the most exciting position battle for the Orioles. Okay, so it might not be all that exciting, but there is a possibility that Matt Wieters won’t be ready for Opening Day. That means Caleb Joseph, J.P. Arencibia, Steve Clevenger and Ryan Lavarnway will fight for two spots on the roster. Joseph has one of the strongest cases to win the backup catcher job after his defensive performance last season. He threw out 23 base runners trying to steal last year in 77 games started, according […]

First-Round Picks Finally Coming Through

The Orioles should feel good about their first-round picks the last few years, as most of these players are key contributors to the team. The last seven first-round picks were catcher Matt Wieters, shortstop Manny Machado and pitchers Brian Matusz, Matthew Hobgood, Dylan Bundy, Kevin Gausman and Hunter Harvey. Every player still remains with Baltimore, while Bundy, Hobgood and Harvey are the only three that still remain in the minors. Bundy at least had a cup of tea with the big club in 2012 before dealing with injury issues. These […]

What to Expect from Dylan Bundy

bundy pitcher for baltimore orioles
We Orioles fans have been waiting for Dylan Bundy to become the team’s ace for years now. Expectations for Bundy have been high ever since the Orioles drafted the Oklahoma native with the fourth pick in the 2011 draft. Bundy started his career in Single-A Delmarva and pitched 30 scoreless innings. He tore through minor league hitters and made his way to Baltimore that same season at just 19 years old. Fans were ready for Bundy to be in the rotation for the 2013 season, as he breezed through the […]

Delmon Young Should be the Everyday DH

batter about to hit ball for baltimore orioles
Every Oriole fan is going to remember designated hitter Delmon Young as the player who had the biggest hit in the 2014 season. Young came to up to the plate with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, as the Orioles trailed the Tigers 6-4. Young came in fresh off the bench and drove in all three runs off of a double, which gave the Orioles a 7-6 lead. Baltimore went on to win the game and took a commanding 2-0 lead against Detroit in the ALDS. Young cemented himself […]

COUNTERPOINT: O’s Need to See What They Can Get From Jimenez

It’s safe to say that Ubaldo Jimenez’s first season with the Baltimore Orioles was a huge bust. After signing a four-year, $50 million deal with Baltimore last offseason, Jimenez turned in a 6-9 record and an ugly 4.81 ERA. He was placed on the 15-day DL in mid-July after many rough starts and only made a few spot appearances out of the bullpen after getting healthy. Kevin Gausman, who was called up from Norfolk to replace Jimenez, pitched well and proved why he was worthy of the No. 4 pick […]

O’s Can Match Markakis’ Production in Right Field

baltimore orioles batter markakis
Many Baltimore fans were in shock when Nick Markakis decided to take his talents to Atlanta. He spent the first nine years of his career in Baltimore and while it seemed that he would be a lock to re-sign, the Gold Glover chose to play where he grew up. It didn’t help that Nelson Cruz left the next day, which meant the team was down two key components from the 2014 squad that made it to the ALCS. The front office also chose not to make any big moves to […]
