The guys and gals who cover the Baltimore Orioles every day do a wonderful job, and I enjoy following them on Twitter and reading their articles. Now that that’s out of the way, let me ask this: why do national reporters seem to get in-depth information that we don’t find from them?

The first two links below include new information on big-name Orioles from ESPN and FOX Sports, respectively. I’m genuinely curious why the players don’t give this kind of stuff to the reporters they see every day and have a relationship with, instead feeding it to national reporters they only see every now and again.

Again, don’t get me wrong – it’s not meant as a shot at our beat writers; just a question from someone who really doesn’t get it.

On to the links.

Chris Davis “Good to Go” with Therapeutic Use Exemption in 2015

…but it’s not for Adderall. It’s for a similar drug, but why is Ken Rosenthal the first to hear about this?

Manny Machado’s Doctor Told him to Expect Second Knee Injury

Manny divulged this piece of information to Karl Ravech of ESPN. You can hear Karl relay the story to Buster Olney on his podcast the link (go to about the 10:00 mark).

Orioles Embrace Analytics

ESPN ranked the members of all four major American sports leagues in their belief in advanced analytics, and the O’s are listed as “Believers.” Mark Brown of Camden Chat breaks down how there might be more than sabermetrics in their “analytical” thinking, though.

Jake and Scott are back with an interview with the voice of OPACY, Ryan Wagner.

Baseball’s Fight with Fatigue

Another general baseball link. Teams are struggling to keep players playing 150+ games per year, which a bit of a new problem. I hadn’t really thought about this, but it’s an interesting story. While your father or grandfather will chalk it up to “spoiled players today,” there’s more to it than that. I say bring back greenies.
