The Orioles gave away umbrellas at last night’s game and oddly enough, it was one of the few games this year where the fans didn’t need them at some point. No, the only things raining down at the Yard last night were dongs and haymakers. Let’s hit the links and see what everyone is saying about the O’s-Royals bench-clearing last night.

Altercation will Hurt Orioles More than Royals in Long Run

SI’s Cliff Corcoran points out some unfortunate truths of this whole thing, namely that losing Machado will hurt the O’s more than losing Ventura will hurt the Royals. Not only because a position player will miss five games for every one a starting pitcher misses for suspensions of equal length, but because Manny is the best player on a first-place team (which is about to play three straight division series), while Ventura is a struggling pitcher for a team that’s hovering around .500.

A Lot of People Were Happy to See Yordano Ventura Get Thumped

Deadspin’s Barry Petchesky was pleasantly surprised at how unrepentant Machado was, and how proud his manager and teammates seemed of him. He also reminds us that Ventura is “baseball’s surliest little shit.”

Melee Could be Turning Point for Orioles…in a Good Way

ESPN’s Eddie Matz says that, even though the Birds will be without their best player for several games, the Royals may have “woke a sleeping giant.” With the way they responded right after the fight – with back-to-back home runs – Matz thinks the O’s are well-equipped to channel this emotion into a continuation of their recent strong play. Cheers to that!

Orioles Batter Charges Mound, Punches Pitcher Square in the Face

Four links, four national websites. I guess this is what the O’s need to do to get some damn respect!
