There is baseball weather in Baltimore on February 24, which is cool for us, but probably terrible for our kids and grandkids. It’s at least appropriate for the moment though, as the O’s play their first “real” fake game of Spring Training today, taking on the Detroit Tigers at 1 PM. In the meantime, let’s see what’ up in the Blog-O’sphere.
As Orioles fans, we’re conditioned to be very wary of getting too optimistic about pitchers, especially our young pitchers. There has been a lot of hype around Dylan Bundy already this spring, and Camden Chat’s Nice Cicere says that’s alright, and Birdland should be excited for year two of Dealin’ Bundy. He breaks out some fancy NEW stats to demonstrate this point.
In case you haven’t noticed, the Orioles have a ton of outfielders down in Sarasota. They obviously won’t all make the team, so who has the best chance? Matt Kremnitzer of Camden Depot breaks down the competition and has some predictions.
Jon Heyman gives the O’s a higher-than-expected grade for their offseason. We’ll see…
As he does every year, Cardinals blogger Daniel Shoptow invited ESR and some other O’s bloggers to talk about the Birds in his season preview series “Playing Pepper.” Domenic Vadala of the Orange Crush, Jon Shepherd of Camden Depot, and Tony Pente of Orioles Hangout and I mostly agreed on the big points. We all chose a different favorite Oriole though, which was a nice surprise.
That’s it for today – let’s call it an early Friday and get to the weekend and some baseball!
