Wednesday’s O’s Links: Birds Need a Lot More from the Bats

This series is not going as we’d hoped, huh? We still can’t get O’s minority owner Mookie Betts out, Fat Sloppy is still hitting like he’s in his prime against us, and of course our bats are asleep AGAIN. Sigh. Hey, as I pointed out yesterday, there’s no such thing as momentum in baseball. Here’s to rebounding for the split.

With a Remarkable Season, O’s Closer Zach Britton is in Cy Young Conversation

The Washington Post’s Dave Sheinin has a cool column on Zach Britton today, that includes a neat story about how Zach’s brother, Buck, gave him the business on a mound in Norfolk back in 2013. That – along with some other things – proved just the kick in the pants Zach needed to become what he is today.

Seriously, Why Do O’s Fans Dislike These Orioles So Much?

Dan Connolly of Baltimore Baseball’s “Tap-In Question” this week asks why fans are so down on these O’s. Some very interesting thoughts in the comments, many of which I found myself nodding along with. Also a lot of telling Dan that we don’t DISLIKE them, we’re just FRUSTRATED AS HELL by them.

How Much Further Can the Orioles Push Dylan Bundy?

The O’s are in a tough spot with Dylan. While it would be nice to be able to shut him down, they have a playoff berth to chase. And while he’s been much worse of late than he was a couple months ago, you still have the confidence when he takes the mound that he could give you a quality start, which is something you can’t say about the fellas who could replace him regularly in the rotation. Still, I think the team needs to start erring on the side of caution here.

O’s Need More From Struggling Offense in Final Games

Camden Depot’s Matt Kremnitzer wrote this before Tuesday’s game, when the Birds were getting no-hit by Eduardo Rodriguez prior to Trey Mancini’s fifth-inning home run. In the end, they scored exactly two runs for the fourth straight game. They’ve dropped three of those four of course, because this team wasn’t built to win 2-1 games. They were built to win 8-6 games. Get it the heck together, offense.

Bird’s Eye View Episode 181: GRRRRR

Jake and Scott are back to tell you why the O’s offensive identity is just fine (direct all anger at Scott), and wonder who O’s fans will hate next. I have a clue, and his name rhymes with Dookie Wets.

And in Ravens News…

Jacksonville is Talented & Desperate

The Jacksonville Jaguars put up big points last season, had a great draft, signed some big free agents, and were the sexy pick in the AFC South. Then they stumbled out of the gates at 0-2, getting thoroughly dismantled by the San Diego Chargers in Week 2. They’re a wounded animal backed into a corner, and RSR’s Ryan Jones says the Ravens need to be wary.
