The O’s took two of three in Tampa over the weekend, and were an Evan Longoria duck fart on Friday away from sweeping the Rays. They actually won two of their three series on the road trip, but the unfortunate sweep at the hands of the Yankees meant that it was still a disappointing 4-5 tour of the Eastern time zone. The Atlanta Braves & Nick Markakis come to town tonight, and with the trade deadline approaching quickly, it’s still anybody’s guess as to which way the Birds will decide to go.

Development Woes Create Clear Path for Orioles

In his weekly column over at MASN, our own Andrew Stetka makes it clear which path he’d like to see the O’s take this week. As he notes (and any O’s fan would find it near impossible to disagree), the team’s shoddy record with developing draft picks into legit major leaguers makes it very appealing for them to go ahead and deal some of their pending free agents for MLB-ready talent, if the option is there. While a draft pick following a qualifying offer is nice, do you have any confidence they can turn those draft picks into everyday MLB players?

What if they Kept Nelson Cruz & Nick Markakis After All?

Camden Chat’s Alex Conway takes a trip to the alternate universe where the Orioles re-signed both Markakis and Nelson Cruz this offseason. It would have resulted in a lot of cuts (many of which were made anyway), some non-signings and some non-trades. While the Birds would unquestionably be better in 2015, they’d of course be financially hamstrung for years to come, as Conway details.

Markakis, Teammates Agree: It’ll Be “Weird”

Nick Markakis playing right field at OPACY in a different uniform will definitely be a weird thing to see for fans, and Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun has some quotes from Nick & his former teammates showing that they’ll be right there with us. Personally, it hurt me a bit more to see Brian Roberts in a New York Yankees uniform, but just like I would’ve with B.Rob, I’d give Nick a standing ovation were I at the Yard for his first AB upon his return. I wonder if he’ll homer in his first AB back like Brian did…

BEV Episode 132: Many Happy Returns

Jake and Scott take some time to reminisce about Nicky Mark on the eve of his return, play another round of Fantasy Boss, and of course, blow the save. Give a listen.

Why the Orioles Should be Sellers

In case you’re not convinced yet, we finish up today with one more link detailing all the reasons that the Birds should ship out some players this week. This time, it’s Rob Shields of Baltimore Sports and Life making the case. Come for the awesome photo of the Warehouse, stay for Rob’s (somewhat depressing) analysis.
