It was a mighty fine Orioles debut for Bud Norris, all things considered.
The 28-year-old, acquired about an hour prior to Wednesday’s non-waiver trade deadline, pitched six innings for the Birds on Thursday against his former mates, giving up just two solo home runs among four hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts.
Of course, O’s fans were a bit frustrated early on, not necessarily because of Norris, but because a 2-0 deficit seemed insurmountable considering the team’s offensive struggles of late. Fortunately, the Birds’ bats woke up from their near week-long slumber in in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, as they scored six times to back up their new teammate.
Here’s a GIF of Norris fanning eight Astros:
The Debbie Downers around here will say, “OK, let’s see him do that against a team that isn’t the Astros.” Still, if we’d lost 11-0 to them on Wednesday, I’d take eight strikeouts against Parkville Little League.
Now, Bud Norris still wasn’t truly an Oriole – not yet.
This had to happen first:
Welcome to Baltimore, Bud the Stud! Norris said it was his first “pie.” Hopefully there are many more to come in a Baltimore uniform.
