They grow up so fast.

Last night, Manny Machado was ejected from a game for the first time in his major league career. He struck out swinging, but appeared to think that he foul tipped the pitch. He said something to home plate umpire Will Little – who was making his first-ever appearance behind the plate – and Little gave him the hook.

According to Elias, Machado had the longest active streak in MLB with 1,206 consecutive innings played before that ejection.

The good news was that Manny’s incident appeared to light a bit of a fire under his teammates, who exploded for five runs in the very same inning.

Here’s a GIF of the ejection, c/o our own Gordon Dixon:

After the game, Manny told reporters that it was, “something that I said wrong to the umpire, and I have to pay the consequences for it. Let my team down. Obviously won’t happen again.”
