The O’s started their road trip with a disappointing 5-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox last night. Despite a strong start from Jason Hammel – who should have been lifted for a lefty before giving up the two-run moonshot to Adam Dunn that pushed Chicago’s lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh – the O’s bats just couldn’t get anything going against the Sox’s John Danks.

However, before it became apparent that Danks would own the Birds all night, the recently-returned Brian Roberts gave the O’s an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Roberts took a Danks fastball deep over the left field wall for his first home run in over two years – since April 13, 2011.

In the bottom half of the same inning, Roberts made a great defensive play, robbing Sox shortstop Alexi Ramirez of what looked to be an infield hit with a barehanded grab/snap throw to first.

It was great to see B.Rob contributing with the bat and with the glove. The cynics among us will point to the fact that he’s now pushed his “healthy” streak to a whopping two games – I just know that watching Brian last night brought a smile to my face.

Here’s hoping B.Rob can continue to be a contributing member of a very successful 2013 Baltimore Orioles baseball team.
