Reading Time: 2 minutes

After a 5-3 road trip through Philadelphia, Toronto, and Boston, the Birds have now won 15 of their last 20 games and are currently four games above .500, matching their high-water mark for the season to date. Few if any gambling sites would have given the O’s much chance to play as they have given their injuries.

They now begin a seven-game homestand against the Indians and Rangers, and if they can continue their winning ways at OPACY (they are tied with Kansas City for the fewest home losses in the AL with 13), they should see their status in the AL East continue to climb.

Saturday is the much anticipated Buck Showalter Garden Gnome night at the Yard, but it doesn’t look like Mother Nature is ready to cooperate – 90-100% chance of rain all day and night. Damn.

Onto the links:

Is Chaz Roe for Real?

The Birds’ biggest bullpen surprise so far in 2015 has easily been Chaz Roe. The former first-round pick, who spent time with the Diamondbacks, Marlins, and Yankees has pitched to a 0.93 ERA for the O’s this season, helping solidify an already very good ‘pen. Can he keep it up? Chris Booze of Camden Chat tries to answer this question. Hopefully Chaz will continue telling opposing hitters to KNOW YOUR ROE AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH.

How Should the O’s Make Room for Chen & Schoop?

The O’s season-long roster crunch continues, and with Wei-Yin Chen coming back tonight, and Jonathan Schoop set to make his return any day now, Dan & Buck will once again have to make some moves. Matt Kremnitzer of Camden Depot suggests what these moves may be, and while I agree with him on one (Delmon Young, you’re first to go), I vehemently disagree with another (Nolan Reimold on the next train out instead of David Lough). We’ll see what DD has up his sleeve – chances are it’s something none of us saw coming.

How are the Orioles Winning 75% of Games?

As mentioned above, the O’s are 15-5 over their last 20, a .750 clip. How have they done it? Randy Buchman of the Baltimore Wire tries to explain it, concluding that no, it certainly hasn’t been the starting pitching, and the power is only partly to thank. The clutch hitting (clobbering the ball w/RISP) and bullpen have been the main factors.

The Superstitious Life of Mike Cuellar

Mike Cuellar is far too often the forgotten man when baseball fans discuss the dominant Orioles pitching staffs of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Younger fans certainly know the name Jim Palmer, many have heard of Dave McNally, but Cuellar won 47 games in his first two seasons in Baltimore, and 20+ two more times. Over at Hardball Times, Bruce Markusen dives into Cuellar’s career deeper in part of HBT’s “Card Corner Plus” series. Well worth a Friday read.

Section 336 Episode 119 – Skype

I guess Josh forgot to send me the link this week (thanks, jerk!), so this week’s Section 336 didn’t get posted here on ESR. You should still give them a listen, as they discuss all things O’s despite all being in different states. (Listening time: 1 hour)
